Anthony Watson is the Digital Product Expert for Active Directions. He works with clients who want digital products integrated into their operations to optimise efficiencies or achieve specific business goals.
Anthony’s remit includes offering general advice on “out of the box” platforms or systems that clients might want to integrate into their current operations as well as building fit-for-purpose digital platforms or products such as Fundraising, CRM and Sales Pipeline systems.
The other side of the work he does for Active Directions is media production which is predominantly video work from conception to execution.
What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?
Every project I work on, I try to think outside the box and offer fresh creative solutions. One example I can share that comes up in every video project is to do with ‘tone of voice’. Corporate clients often don’t know how they should present themselves, their products or their services in video content. There are many ways you can craft the right tone of voice for a client, such as the script, the pacing, the look and feel of the shooting location. I really like to use music to demonstrate the options clients have. I will supply them with multiple music tracks to quickly demonstrate what options they have because everybody has an emotional response to music.
What are you happiest doing when you’re not working?
Travelling, cooking, watching films, brewing beer, designing and building furniture, cycling. That’s just a start – I have a long list of hobbies.
What would your personal motto be?
Life is a journey, not a destination.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Move overseas.” At the time I was really stagnating in my career in Sydney (and life to an extent). I needed some new perspectives and adventures but I was afraid to give myself permission to go back to the drawing board. I needed someone else to give it to me.
